WadeearnedhiswayintotheworldchampionshipbybecomingtheUSchampionthepreviousday,usingtheMetcalMX-5210duringthepreliminarycompetition.Hecompetedagainsteightothercontestantsfromaroundtheglobeduringtheworldchampionshipround.WadementionedthathehasusedMetcalsystemsformanyyears.

JerrySimmons,MarketingManager,commented,Metcalisverypleasedthatalong-timeuserofMetcalsystemsnotonlywontheUSChampionship,butwentontowintheWorldChampionship,inimpressivefashion.TheIPCHandSolderingCompetitionpromoteshighqualitysolderingstandardsthroughouttheelectronicsindustryandwearehappytobeapartofit.

Duringthisthree-daycompetition,participantscompetedtobuildafunctionalelectronicsassemblyin30minutes.AssembliesarejudgedonsolderinginaccordancewithIPC-A-610Ecriteria,thespeedatwhichtheassemblywasproduced,andoverallelectricalfunctionalityofassembly.IPC-A-610EMasterInstructorsservedasthejudges.
