The International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (iNEMI), an industry-led consortium, expanded its membership roster by 10 during the first quarter of 2010. It is the largest number of new members ever added in a single quarter. 1 See related release about new iNEMI packaging initiatives This represents an excellent quarter of growth for iNEMI as we work to broaden our focus and ourmembership, said Bill Bader, CEO of iNEMI.I am very encouraged by the diversity of our new members, both in terms of their business diversity and where they are located, as we strive to grow our global impact and results. These organizations also validate the work iNEMI is doing, indicating that we are focusing on issues of importance to the electronics industry and that we are, indeed, adding value globally. Several of the new members joined specifically to participate in our new packaging initiatives,1 and several others want to get involved in the industry-leading work we are doing on the environmental front. About iNEMI: Of the new members, four are from Europe, three from Asia, and three are from North America. The International Electronics Manufacturing Initiatives mission is to forecast and accelerate improvements in the electronics manufacturing industry for a sustainable future. This industry-led consortium is made up of more than 70 manufacturers, suppliers, industry associations and consortia, government agencies and universities. iNEMI roadmaps the needs of the electronics industry, identifies gaps in the technology infrastructure, establishes implementation projects to eliminate these gaps (both business and technical), and stimulates standards activities to speed the introduction of new technologies. The consortium also works with government agencies, universities and other funding agencies to set priorities for future industry needs and RD initiatives. iNEMI is based in Herndon, Virginia (near Washington, D.C.), with regional offices in Shanghai, China and Limerick, Ireland.
